Alex joined Chambers as a tenant in October 2022, following the successful completion of his pupillage. Prior to commencing pupillage, Alex worked as a paralegal at a Band 1 ranked law firm on a number of high-profile litigations.

Area of Law

Commercial

Before pupillage Alex worked at a silver circle law firm and acquired understanding in a range of commercial and civil law areas. Further to this Alex is familiar with forms of alternative dispute resolution having won his university’s negotiation competition on the Bar Professional Training Course.

Crime

Alex gained extensive experience in the Magistrates’ Court and is building his practice in the Crown Court. He has represented clients accused of a variety of matters with a particular focus on driving offences. Alex has also represented clients in a number of exceptional hardship and special reasons sentencing hearings. He has also made a number of civil applications in the Magistrates’ Court including a closure order. Alex has also appeared in the Crown Court both defending a client who had appealed his conviction from the Magistrates’ Court and as for both the prosecution and defendants in sentencing and mention hearings. Alex is a CPS Level 1 prosecutor.

Defamation

Alex has previously worked in defamation. In this role he worked on a high profile multi-week trial in the High Court with numerous witnesses both in England and Wales and abroad. In this role he also made applications before Masters in the Queen’s Bench Division (as it then was) of the High Court on various case management matters.

Education

Whilst practising as a barrister Alex has clerked a school admissions appeal panels and a governors disciplinary committee meeting, successfully represented parents in sections B, F, and I against a local authority, and appeared for a student in an Independent Review Panel hearing. Before commencing pupillage Alex successfully appealed decisions made by schools and local authorities through educational appeals with Independent Parental Special Education Advice (IPSEA). Appeals in the latter were against refusals to assess for and the contents of sections B, F, and I in Education, Health, and Care plans.

Family

Alex has represented numerous clients in the Family Court. Cases he has acted in include return dates and pre-trial reviews for non-molestation orders and occupation orders, hearings in private and public childrens proceedings, and an application in a long-running financial remedies case. Prior to pupillage Alex worked at the National Centre for Domestic Violence securing non-molestation, occupation, and prohibited steps orders for victims of domestic abuse.

Freedom of Information and Data Protection

Whilst in his role prior to pupillage Alex worked on a number of matters that included complex litigation on data protection issues and complaints to the ICO.

Housing and Social Welfare

Before commencing pupillage Alex successfully appealed decisions made by public bodies through his pro-bono work with the Free Representation Unit (FRU).

Insolvency and Restructuring 

Alex has appeared in the Business & Property Courts to present a winding up petition.

Landlord and Tenant

Since becoming a barrister Alex has acted for both landlords and tenants in a variety of matters including possession hearings and disrepair claims.

Media and Entertainment

On top Alex's work in defamation, described above, his previous role also encompassed misuse of private information, breach of confidence, and data protection. In this role he worked on various pieces of litigation including appeals in the Court of Appeal (Civil Division) on nuanced points of law.

Personal Injury

Alex has undertaken a variety of work in the County Court including small claims trials, interim applications, fast track trials, and a pre-trial review in a multi-track claim. He also has experience of drafting statements of case, opinions, and applications.

Public and Administrative Law

Through his work with Independent Parental Special Education Advice (IPSEA) and the Free Representation Unit (FRU) Alex has successfully challenged a number of decisions made by public bodies.

Regulatory

Alex has undertaken work in education, social welfare, and also officiates motorsport events.

Sport

Alex officiates motorsport events in a voluntary capacity.
