Direct Access Barrister
Ann Frances Crighton
I spent over 20 years with the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) as a Senior Crown Prosecutor and gained extensive experience in all criminal matters ranging from road traffic offences to the most serious offences, for example, gang rape and murder. I became a youth specialist and spent ten years working in the Youth Unit.
I have extensive advocacy experience in the Magistrates and Youth Courts and in 2000 became one of the first CPS Crown Advocates and thereafter gained considerable Crown Court experience. During my time as a Prosecutor I was also the CPS lawyers Union representative and by the time I left the CPS I held the position of national Convenor – the most senior Union position and was proud of the fact that my colleagues/other lawyers voted for me to represent them. As a result of my extensive negotiating experience and knowledge of employment law, she was appointed to the Employment Tribunal in 2010.
During my time with the CPS I also acquired a particular expertise in road traffic cases; including speeding, excess alcohol, totting and special reasons.

What sort of work do I do?
If you are at risk of being disqualified from driving, you would be well advised to call me. Why? I am an Uber type of barrister – the future of the legal profession and what that means is
(a) you save money by instructing me directly as opposed to instructing a Solicitor who will later instruct a Barrister i.e. you cut out the middleman
(b) I will take care of your case from start to finish – you do not run the risk of a Solicitor instructing a Barrister you have never met before at the last minute and getting the wrong end of the stick – I take your instructions and I also represent you in Court
(c) you are guaranteed expertise – I specialise in motoring offences which means you do not run the risk of a Solicitor
Who do I work for?
Generally people accused of traffic offences such as speeding, drink driving, no insurance and/or people who wish to put forward Exceptional Hardship and/or Special Reasons in order to save their driving licence. I also deal with general criminal offences.
