As a leading family KC with over 30 years expertise in all aspects of financial, international and private law family cases, Charles is regularly instructed in international family disputes for ultra high net worth individuals and often provides expert advice in foreign divorce matters particularly concerning the UAE and Middle East. Charles has a reputation for dealing with the most complex cases involving financial disputes and trusts, also cases arising out of same sex/modern families disputes. As one of the few recognised leading family UK barristers in both matrimonial finance and children work, Charles is often instructed to represent high profile clients in all issues arising out of their separation. He is qualified to receive instructions directly from overseas lawyers and lead teams in multi-jurisdictional cases.

I have extensive experience (over 30 years) in advising representing clients in all areas of disputes relating to family law. I have appeared in all domestic courts including the Supreme Court and have multiple reported authorities. I am an expert in both financial remedies, Schedule 1 financial cases and children cases. I often act for clients in both areas. My practice encompasses international cases including jurisdiction disputes, forum fights, relocation and abduction of children, enforcement of foreign orders, multi jurisdictional advice and leading teams in such cases. Domestically, I act for footballers, their wives, trustees, business people and celebrities as well as for parents, children grandparents and the vulnerable. I have a particular interest in the middle east acting in several financial and children cases concerning the UAE. I am an arbitrator, private FDR judge and I lecture widely including at the judicial college teaching judges. I am the vice chair of the Bar Council's International Committee and appointed to the President of the Family Division's Transparency Implementation Group. I have been nominated for many awards including for family KC of the year several times. I am a leading author in the family leading text, Rayden and Jackson.
What sort of work do I do?
Financial remedies, Schedule 1 financial cases, divorce, same sex disputes, domestic and international relocation, child arrangements, child abduction, foreign law disputes, trusts and business structures, cases involving private investment, "carry" and PE cases. Appeals in all family cases. Complex international cases under various treaties including Hague 1980, Hague 1996 and European and Human Rights law. I have also acted for the official solicitor and on behalf of children in complex private law and public law, children cases.

Parents, divorcing spouses, separating parents, children, guardians, local authorities and governments. I have advised foreign nationals in cases concerning their families in and outside the UK.
