Kawsar Zaman

Kawsar Zaman is a UK qualified Barrister, a CEDR Accredited Mediator, and a Visiting Lecturer in Law.

He is a law graduate of the London School of Economics (2HC Scholar), the University of Oxford (OCIS Scholar), and Harvard Law School (Fulbright Scholar).

Before becoming a Barrister, Kawsar was a Solicitor at ‘Magic Circle’ law firms Clifford Chance LLP and Allen & Overy LLP in London, where he specialised in Financial Services Regulatory Law acting for some of the world’s largest corporate and financial institutions on a range of high-profile, international and cross-border matters. He has also worked on high-value International Commercial Arbitration and Mediation matters, complex Banking & Finance transactions, and in forming Private Funds.

Kawsar was previously a solicitor at Magic Circle law firms Clifford Chance LLP and Allen & Overy LLP. He specialised in Financial Services Regulatory Law. He is currently a JJ Counsel to the Bank of England working on discrete matters.

Education

Kawsar is an experienced Barrister specialising in Education Law. He regularly represents local authorities and appellants in the First-Tier SEND Tribunal on matters relating to EHCP appeals. He provides bespoke legal advice on a range of issues from school catchment area disputes to discrimination claims.

Kawsar has been a School Governor at a secondary school in London for the past 7 years and is very experienced in school governance matters.

Employment and Pensions

Kawsar is an experienced Barrister specialising in Employment Law. He is experienced in representing both claimants and respondents on matters before the Employment Tribunals of England & Wales. He has acted as counsel in various multi-day final hearings and preliminary hearings on the spectrum of employment matters from unfair dismissal to discrimination claims.

Inquests and Public Inquiries

Kawsar is experienced in inquests and public inquiries. He has appeared as counsel in inquests and is currently a counsel to the Public Inquiry into Undercover Policing where he has worked since November 2020.

Professional Discipline

Kawsar is experienced in professional discipline. He has advised and acted as counsel for Registrants across a range of professional regulatory bodies including: the NMC; GMC; GOsC; and GDC. He has also acted as counsel advising in Sports Arbitration for Registrants of the British Horseracing Authority.

Regulatory

Kawsar is experienced in a range of regulatory matters acting for both regulatory bodies and claimants.

Sport

Kawsar has acted in Sports Arbitration, for example, for a Registrant before the British Horseracing Authority. He is a trustee of the Wembley National Stadium Trust and a legal adviser to Nujum Sports.
