Charities
I have specialised in advising Islamic charities for the last 25 years, whether local, national or international, including setting up new charities, upgrading the governing documents of charities established during the 20th century, mediating disputes concerning the administration and governance of charities (which often arise from outdated, poorly drafted governing instruments) – and if necessary and as a last resort representing charities in court.
It is important to choose the most suitable legal structure for your charity.
I charge my reduced hourly rate of £150 per hour for all of my charities work (which is half my commercial rate).
Employment and Pensions
Although I used to represent clients in employment tribunals and the employment appeal tribunal in the past, due to my growing charities work commitments I have been unable during the last 15 years to take on such cases.
I do occasionally draft contracts of employment for Muslim employees of charities, for example for imams.
Wills and Probate
I am a co-author of “The Islamic Will” (published by Dar Al-Taqwa, London, 1995) and have provided a simple Islamic Will service for the last 25 years.
If a Muslim living in the United Kingdom wishes to have his or her estate distributed in accordance with the Shari’a after his or her death, it is necessary to leave a will which makes provision for this.
If you die without leaving a will, the intestacy rules (which may not correspond to your personal wishes) will be applied.
What sort of work do I do?
I specialise in Islamic charities, Islamic Wills and contracts of employment for Muslim employees.
I am an ADR Group Accredited Civil & Commercial and Online Mediator
Who do I work for?
Most of my clients are either the directors/trustees of charitable organisations or individuals who want to have their wealth divided in accordance with the Shari’a after their deaths.
