Direct Access Barrister

Michael Allin

Michael has a mixed practice, including many areas of civil and family law. Michael has a particular interest in personal injury, contract, and land disputes, as well as cases involving matrimonial finances.

Michael qualified as a barrister in 2020 (after starting pupillage in 2019), and since has developed a successful practice involving many areas. The majority of Michael's cases are those where he is instructed by a solicitor, but Michael accepts many cases from members of the public directly. Michael prides himself on ensuring clients understand the intricacies of their case in a manner that they understand, whilst simultaneously putting the case as "calmly and cool-ly" as possible to other legal professionals and the Court.

Chancery

One aspect of Michael’s practice is in respect of TOLATA claims. TOLATA is the Trusts of Land and Appointment of Trustees Act, and relates to management of land held by more than one person, for example by cohabiting couples after the end of their relationship. Michael is frequently instructed to advise, draft, and represent clients in TOLATA claims, and has experience of running claims involving multiple properties at the same time (for example the family home and rental properties held by the same parties).
