Direct Access Barrister

Michael Cameron-Mowat

I am a barrister with a range of experience with Direct Access clients. I have helped Direct Access clients with cases ranging from breaches of contract, defective workmanship, landlord & tenant disputes and personal injury and loss.

Area of Law

Chancery

I have represented clients in disputes over boundaries to property. That can include a dispute over the actual dividing line or it can be disputes over whether one party has built in such a way as to breach the line between the properties.

Commercial

I have a wealth of experience in disputes over contracts. Whether that be a consumer who has suffered loss as a result of substandard service (for example a tradesperson providing a service in your home which has led to damage) or even a company who have provided a service and a customer has unlawfully refused to pay.

I have represented many clients who have suffered personal injury and need assistance in the court process.

Crime

I spent many years both prosecuting and defending those charged with serious crimes. For most serious crimes I would advise the use of a solicitor.

However if you are faced with more minor offences, e.g. vehicle offences or licensing offences, I am able to represent you in court to ensure you achieve the best possible outcome.

Insolvency and Restructuring

I have both presented and defended bankruptcy petitions. I have advised clients on ways to avoid bankruptcy and also their rights under the Insolvency Act 1986.

Landlord and Tenant

I have represented many tenants who are facing eviction from landlords. I have also brought claims on behalf of tenants who are forced to live in substandard conditions or have not had their desposits protected.

I have also acted for landlords who are faced with tenants who are unlawfully refusing to give up possession of a property.

I have also acted in disputes between commercial landlords and tenants.

What sort of work do I do?

I have worked across many different types of law.

I started my career in criminal law, prosecuting and defending people who were charged with serious offences. I also worked in family law, mainly focused on disputes over child custody arrangements. This work helped me become a very effective courtroom advocate.

I now work primarily in civil and commercial claims, landlord & tenant litigation and property disputes.

In civil and commercial claims I have a depth of experience in assisting clients who have suffered loss as a result of the provision of substandard products and services and conversely business clients who have provided excellent service but not received payment. I have helped those who have suffered personal injury in an accident who need advice. I also have experience in presenting and defending bankruptcy/winding up actions.

In land claims, I have defended tenants who are being unlawfully evicted from their property. I have also represented small-scale landlords with tenants who are unlawfully refusing to leave their property. I have advised parties on boundary disputes and party wall agreements.

Who do I work for?

I assist anyone who is suffering loss as a result of a breach of contract or an act of negligence. I represent tenants and landlords and anyone with on-going disagreements with their neighbours.

I help anyone who is facing court proceedings and needs an experienced professional to guide and represent them through the daunting process.
