Michael's practice encompasses a broad range of civil work, including commercial and contract law, property and chancery cases and public law and regulatory work. He is an accredited mediator, and his background and skills enable him to deal appropriately with parties, helping them to reach a resolution.

Michael is based in the South, but he undertakes work across the country, and his Chambers have branches conveniently located for the High Court sitting in Bristol and Birmingham.

Commercial

Michael regularly advises and acts in complex contractual and company law disputes, including those involving partnerships, insolvency, civil fraud, and high-value equipment sales. He appears in the High Court in commercial and chancery matters and has extensive experience and interest in interlocutory applications such as strike-out and summary judgment, jurisdiction challenges, sovereign immunity, and relief from sanctions.

Property

Michael covers the broad range of property and land work; including rights of way; boundary disputes; covenants; and breaches of planning. Michael's busy practice has a recent focus on estates and contested probate matters, including cases involving the Inheritance Act; proprietary estoppel; and allegations of fraud; as well as those with an international dimension.

Public and Administrative Law

Due to Michael’s experience in Parliament; in Government as a Law Officer (HM Solicitor General); and in the Cabinet, Michael is uniquely qualified to advise on all matters relating to the legal political sphere and the interpretation of legislation.

Michael can be instructed to provide legal advice, including drafting, and representing clients at Court. Michael’s practice encompasses the broad range of chancery, property and land work, including rights of way; boundary disputes; covenants; and breaches of planning. Michael is also experienced in dealing with international commercial and contractual disputes. Michael is developing a specialism in agricultural law and is a member of the Agricultural Law Association.
