Direct Access Barrister

Natasha Niccolls

I am a barrister at Fraser Chambers and I practise in family and civil law.

I have experience of assisting clients, including representation and drafting, in a variety of stages of a case, including first hearings and final hearings.

I am also experienced in representing clients in different courts, including the High Court.

Before becoming a barrister, I worked in the family department of a law firm. This gave me a good base of experience in family law, and an ability to be able to liaise with clients directly. I have been undertaking direct access work since I qualified as a barrister.

Area of Law

Commercial

I am currently expanding my practice to include commercial cases.

In particular, I have experience of commercial contract disputes (e.g., breach of contract). I also have wider experience in civil cases, including experience of representation in hearings for applications such as to set aside default judgements.

Family

I have a broad family law practice which includes private law children, financial remedies and non-molestation orders. I have experience of assisting clients at various stages of a case, including first hearings and final hearings.

In private law children, I mostly represent fathers, but I will also accept instructions from mothers and anyone else who may be a party to proceedings. I have been instructed on various applications, including child arrangements orders, specific issues orders and prohibited steps orders. I have also been instructed in cases concerning allegations of domestic abuse.

I also have experience in financial remedies cases, including those with international elements, issues of non-matrimonial property, allegations of non-disclosure of assets and issues regarding non-engagement of the other party. I tend to have an equal split of being instructed by husbands and wives.

I have further experience of non-molestation and occupation orders.

Landlord and Tenant

I have experience of assisting clients in landlord and tenant disputes. I am able to assist with representation in court, advice and drafting.

My previous experience in this area includes representing a landlord/leaseholder in an application to add the local authority/freeholder as a party to ongoing proceedings with the previous tenants.

Property

I have experience of TOLATA cases. In particular, I am well-suited to assisting in cases which have an element of family dispute to them (such as between formerly cohabiting couples) due to the unique skillset I have developed from my family practice.

What sort of work do I do?

I am able to assist you with legal advice, drafting legal documents and representing you in court.

Who do I work for?

I am instructed by both individuals seeking to instruct a barrister directly and solicitors seeking to instruct a barrister on behalf of their client.

In private law children cases, I tend to mostly represent fathers. I do also accept instructions from mothers and I have experience of assisting in cases with other persons who may be parties, such as grandparents.

In other areas of law, I have an even split of different types of clients.
