Satya Mouland
Satya is a commercial barrister at 36 Stone in Gray's Inn, London. She is an experienced junior given her PhD in International Arbitration and recent experience in a large-scale shipping dispute. Recently, she has completed a secondment where she has assisted an insurance Partner on a regular basis and is developing an insurance practice. She also represents landlords and tenants, as well as individuals and businesses, in the County Court. She is an experienced drafter in shipping and commercial matters up to High Court level.

Commercial
Satya has gained extensive experience in insurance and reinsurance; shipping, wet and dry; property matters, including landlord and tenant and non-residential; commercial contract disputes; airline disputes; IP disputes; mediations. She has a strong commercial acumen, having been involved across complex contractual claims often involving multiple defendants. She has drafted Advices in a wide range of areas, including disputes concerning conflicts of jurisdiction and conflicts between potential applicable laws; termination of agreements relating to commercial agents and the continuation of agency fees (for which she successfully got permission to appeal) and interpretation of contract questions concerning whether a 'compromise agreement' was reached in the insurance context.
Insurance and Reinsurance
During her recent secondment to Horwich Farrelly, Satya has worked closely with insurance partners to assist in drafting claims/particulars of claim/pleadings. She has a keen interest in building on her insurance knowledge and experience.
Landlord and Tenant
Satya has represented landlords and tenants across the country and is very adept at reaching the best solution for the client on the day.

Satya has been involved in shipping disputes which involve issues of environmental damage and protection.
Private International Law
Satya has extensive experience in private international law, providing regular advice to solicitors in shipping and sports disputes (often arbitrations) where conflicts of laws questions have been at the heart of the issues arising (whether jurisdictional or applicable law). She is particularly experienced given her PhD in the area (on enforcement jurisdiction in arbitration as a source of international law).
Property
Satya has acted for individuals and corporations including claims which give rise to complex areas of law, including HMOs under the Housing Act 2004; possession hearings; disrepair claims. She has extensive drafting experience in all these areas.
Public International Law
Satya has strong experience in public international law, both in practice and in academic. She holds a PhD in International Law and has been involved in shipping and other commercial arbitrations which have engaged questions of public international law including treaty law.
Shipping and Maritime
Satya has strong experience in shipping for her call, often being instructed to draft Particulars of Claim for cargo claimants in dry shipping and currently through involvement on a large wet shipping dispute. Her experience in dry shipping includes voyage-charterparty disputes (including laytime/demurrage disputes; NOR issues; and bunker disputes), cargo claims and claims for lost hire. She has detailed experience in relation to issues such as force majeure and frustration. In wet shipping, she has experience in salvage claims. She is currently seconded on a part time basis to the shipping group within the London Markets Team at Horwich Farrelly.
Sport
Satya has recently provided advice in a large-scale sports arbitration involving allegations against multiple defendants.
Wills and Probate
Satya has represented clients in the probate area, including pursuing debts against potentially insolvent estates. She has succeeded in obtaining judgment in areas which crossover with insolvency law due to her keen interest in the area.

Satya is currently instructed on a large shipping arbitration. She has particular expertise in private international law, including providing regular advice on conflicts issues in shipping and sports arbitrations. She has extensive experience representing landlords and tenants, as well as individuals and businesses, in the County Courts.
