Simao’s private family law practice has a particular focus on financial disputes following divorce or separation between both married and unmarried couples.

He is experienced in dealing with complex financial remedies applications involving substantial liquid and non-liquid assets, company structures, pensions and third-party intervenors.

Simao is regularly instructed to advise and represent clients in trusts of land cohabitation disputes under TOLATA applications and at mediation. He is experienced in drafting cohabitation agreements.

Simao also has a family law practice covering non-molestation and occupation orders and transfers of tenancy applications under the Family Law Act and child arrangements disputes and applications under the Children Act. He is an experienced advocate who appears for both applicants and respondents in cases with an alleged domestic abuse background.

On the private client side, Simao can be instructed with respect to the drafting and interpretation of wills, intestacy, challenges to wills and claims for family provision and the removal and substitution of personal representatives.

Simao advises and represents performing artists, their managers and agents, in relation to the full spectrum of industry commercial contracts. He also undertakes injunction cases and advises on copyright and intellectual property infringements.

Simao has a broad property law practice encompassing commercial and residential tenancies; forfeiture and actions for breach of covenant, including possession and disrepair; statutory regulation of tenancies including business tenancy renewals, leasehold enfranchisement and extension and service charges.

Simao also deals with disputes involving adverse possession and title issues, equitable interests in land, including trusts of land, co-ownership and proprietary estoppel, trespass, nuisance and boundary disputes and mortgages.
