Direct Access Barrister
William Rees-Mogg
I have a busy court practice, appearing on a regular basis in the County Court in matters relating to my Chambers’ specialisms of Aviation Law and Commercial work. I accept public access instructions in matters worth up to £25,000.00 as sole counsel. I have also appeared as counsel in the High Court.
I also appear in matters relating to Aviation Law, Landlord and Tenant, Commercial and Chancery Law and Road Traffic Law (including Credit Hire). I have a busy paperwork practice, including drafting advice and court documents in the above matters and am able to assist litigants in person to draft court documents.
Recent work includes a successful application to set aside default judgment entered against a major UK based airline and work as a junior in a High Court claim worth £3m+. I also appear frequently representing PayPal in a range of matters and recently successfully defended an application for relief from sanctions against the company in respect of claims totaling £100,000.
I appear in all county courts in the London, the South East and the South West and am able to travel beyond this for High Court matters.
Area of Law
Commercial
I have acted in numerous commercial cases, including debt and aviation claims. I have also worked as junior counsel on a large (£3m+) civil fraud matter which will go to trial in 2026.
Landlord and Tenant
I have appeared for landlords in various possession matters since 2024. My work has included basic first hearings at which I have obtained orders for possession and transfer to the High Court for enforcement; directions hearings and substantive hearings.
Property
I have advised on matters relating to commercial leases pursuant to the Landlord and Tenant Act 1954. I am also currently instructed in a matter relating to the registration and transfer of manorial land in Somerset.
What sort of work do I do?
I do civil work and am able to appear in court on behalf of public access clients for all commercial work worth up to £25,000.00.
In particular I have in the past worked in the following areas:
1. Civil Fraud.
2. Debt Claims.
3. Credit Hire disputes.
4. Contractual disputes.
5. All interim hearings, including applications and case management conferences.
I also have experience dealing with non-contentious work such as non-litigious correspondence between individuals and bodies such as the Information Commissioner's Office and the Gambling Commission.
Who do I work for?
I help individuals who are dealing with commercial disputes and for whom the costs of a full solicitor/barrister team are too high. I particularly aim to work with small business owners involved in disputes with customers and suppliers and am always conscious of the importance of reaching a commercially acceptable outcome.
